Value-added tax (VAT) is levied on the sale of goods and services. Die Umsatzsteuer ist eine Sachsteuer. It is an indirect tax because the taxpayer differs from the tax debtor. The tax payer ultimately pays the tax, while the tax debtor then transfers the tax to the tax office.
