About us

A group of stone figures of different sizes

Finanznavi is a project that is part of the national financial literacy strategy for Austria. This project was initiated and is led by the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB), Austria’s central bank. The project was made possible with funds granted by the European Commission and implemented jointly with the OECD.

The aim of the Finanznavi portal is to sustainably improve the financial education of the Austrian population and provide guidance on important financial issues. Finanznavi is the first point of contact for all Austrian citizens if they are looking for info on financial topics. It will help them navigate safely through financial life. The information offered ranges from basic to more complex issues. The portal provides a comprehensive overview of everyday-life financial topics. It will inform you on: how to handle money safely, different payment options, saving and investing, credit and debt, risk management and consumer protection, including protection against financial fraud.

Topics are grouped around different phases in life, so you can browse contents and tips that are interesting for you at this stage in life – with just a few clicks. But you can also access all info sections directly. The Finanznavi website is a central component of the action plan devised under the national financial literacy strategy and aims to sustainably promote financial literacy in Austria.

The offer presented on the Finanznavi website can be divided into three categories:

Independent, quality-assured information with real-life examples

Finanznavi offers reliable and verified information on everyday financial issues. All content was developed in a cooperation between the Federal Ministry of Finance, the OeNB and the Institute for Business Education of WU Vienna. Many stakeholders from the field of financial education were involved. In addition to various ministries and public institutions, these stakeholders also included financial supervisory bodies, debt counseling experts, social partnership organizations, private sector associations and NGOs, as well as academic institutions and independent research institutes.

The portal provides checklists and tips to show you concrete options for action in your personal financial life. Links to trustworthy sources will help you access further information and familiarize yourself with suitable tools and apps.

16 explanatory videos cover the most important topics in brief and provide an overview of relevant issues (in German). We tried to use easy-to-understand language for the Finanznavi portal and hope this will make you want to spend some time on our financial education portal.

External training offer

In addition to the content created for Finanznavi itself, the portal also provides access to over 150 training events and materials provided by trusted stakeholders from the financial education sector in Austria.

This will help you easily find training options and content offered in Austria in the field of financial education. That way you can continue your education according to your personal preferences: You can choose from a wide range of offers provided by civil society, NGOs, academic and public institutions, and the business sector. The quality of the presented training options was checked in advance, so you now have a comprehensive and high-quality offer at a glance.

Finanznavi self-check

In our Finanznavi self-check, you can answer some multiple-choice questions that will help you find out what you already know and identify any remaining gaps in your knowledge. The knowledge self-check includes a basic and an advanced quiz. At the end, users receive recommendations on info pages that may help them deepen their understanding and close potential knowledge gaps. A behavior self-check gives you the opportunity to reflect on your financial habits.
