Working life
Many people’s financial situation strongly depends on which profession they choose, how well jobs in that field pay and whether they work full-time or part-time. People's working life also influences their pension provisions and entitlements and thus their financial situation in old age.
Getting your first job can be challenging. You will have to train for it, choose where to apply and go through an application process, salary negotiations and a trial period. For further information on these topics, see Your first job.
If you want to work as an employee, you will work for an organization, in most cases for a company. Your skills and work contribute to this organization’s success. Employees usually get a regular income (wage or salary) and often have regular working hours. In Austria, employees also contribute to, and benefit from, a social security system. For further information, see Employment.
However, you may also want to work as an entrepreneur or self-employed person. In this case, you bear the (financial) risk for your professional success yourself, but also enjoy more freedom in realizing your ideas and visions. For further information on these topics, see Self-employment and entrepreneurship.
